Today was a very short ride from Orifino to Pierce, Idaho. A couple of the trails were not where they were supposed to be, but there was a newer road that was nice gravel/rock base and we got to the town in two hours. Highest altitude was about 3,000 feet. Meet a couple of great local town folks including a gold miner named Art. We changed our oil in town and a local guy named Reid took us over to his house and shop, loaned us tools, pan to change the oil and gave us a few drinks while we were there. Reid is a retired truck driver and now works part time running a low boy. He was a nice guy. We stayed at THE OUTBACK Cabins & Outdoor Adventures. www.outbackidaho.com 1-800-538-1754. There is a new owner that is just buying the place and it’s very nice, neat and clean. Prices are right also. Then we met as he referred to himself, “the town drunk”. He was actually a very witty guy named Steve and he has a great comedy routine. I think he could replace Jay Leno when he retires. We ate at the Timber Inn owned by Rob Harrell. Brenda served us and was more than a match for any hard time we could give her. We ate outside and she made us wipe off the water from for each of our own chairs and then we had to wipe one off for her to sit on while our order was being prepared. Food was great and it is in an old log building that was built around 1927. All and all Pierce is a cute very very little town that you can see all of in about a half hour. Nothing wrong with that! Tomorrow is a long day as we’ll go all the way from Pierce, Idaho to Superior, Montana. I’m taking my traveling companions Aaron and his son AJ to the airport in Missoula for an early flight out on the fifth. We are going to take a day and half break in Superior and wait for my buddy Larry to show up the night of the 6th so we can start out early on the morning of the 7th. Remember, when you see the route of our transponder going down a highway for a bit and then returning on the same path, we are just going to the closest motel for the night if we can’t ride our atvs to the motel. We are always going back to the place of beginning or further back to start the following day so we have one continuous route. Our photos will be
downloaded once we have a rest day in Superior. Nothing else exciting
happened today. No helicopters, no bears although Aaron did see a
mountain lion that ran right out in front of him. Oh one other thing,
I’ve lost so much weight my pants fell down to my ankles in the elevator
last night. I was holding a few items and they just fell down.
Kind of embarrassing since there were a few other folks in the elevator
at the time.
